Website design studio

Your new website is already built.

I design and build it in full, before you commit to anything. You see the finished site on a real address, then decide whether you want it.

How it works

No brief. No deposit. No risk.

  1. 01

    I build it first

You get a finished website, not a mockup or a slide deck. Real pages, real copy, real structure, on a real address you can open on your phone.

  2. 02

    You look at it

It sits behind a password so only you see it. Take a week. Show your partner. Compare it with what you have now.

  3. 03

    You decide

If you want it, I finish it with your real details, move it to your domain and hand it over. If you do not, that is genuinely fine, and it has cost you nothing.

Selected work

Five sites, built before asking.

Each of these was designed and built in full as a speculative rebuild, then shown to the business it was made for. That is the offer, not a portfolio trick.

Trading names, telephone numbers and towns are blurred out. None of these businesses has agreed to anything yet, and until one does it is not mine to put their name to. Yours would be treated the same way.

01 Identity and nine page site

Heating and plumbing engineers

Built from nothing but a company name, a trade and a photograph of their logo. The mark on the site is a vector trace of that photograph, generated by a tracing script rather than redrawn by eye, and it matches the original to 99.3 percent.

  • Identity
  • Nine pages
  • Logo traced from artwork
  • Dark first

02 Nine page site

Heritage building contractor

Quiet luxury for a firm trading since the 1970s. High contrast serif headings, a restrained ink and burgundy palette, and enough space in the layout to feel expensive rather than busy.

  • Heritage positioning
  • Editorial layout
  • Nine pages

03 Nine page site

Roofing contractor

Reimagined rather than copied. Navy and gold, a carousel that works properly from the keyboard, and a structure built around the questions a homeowner actually asks before letting someone onto their roof.

  • Full redesign
  • Accessible carousel
  • Nine pages

04 Static rebuild

Building services firm

Every word of the existing copy preserved exactly, and everything around it rebuilt. Proof that most sites do not need new writing so much as somewhere better to put the writing they already have.

  • Copy preserved verbatim
  • Fraunces and Inter
  • Static build

05 Rebuilt from a page builder

Plumbing, heating and gas engineers

A drag and drop site rebuilt as a typed, content driven application. Every price, service and opening hour lives in one content layer, so the whole site updates from a single file rather than from a page editor.

  • Next.js and TypeScript
  • Structured content layer
  • Full price list

What is different

The things nobody puts on a sales page.

Because they are difficult, and because most sites cannot claim them.

Written by hand

No WordPress, no Wix, no Squarespace, no page builder. HTML, CSS and a little JavaScript, which is why these pages are measured in kilobytes rather than megabytes.

Tested for accessibility

Every page is audited with axe-core at three screen widths, plus a separate sweep that catches the one contrast failure automated tools are blind to. Not "designed to be accessible". Tested.

Fast because it is small

No framework, no jQuery, no icon library, no font service. Typefaces are self hosted and subset. Nothing is loaded that is not used.

Works without JavaScript

Turn scripting off and the site still reads: nothing hidden, answers open, navigation intact. Everything moving is an enhancement, never a requirement.

No tracking, so no cookie banner

No analytics, no pixels, no third party requests at all. That is not a compromise, it is why there is nothing to consent to.

Honest by default

No invented reviews, no borrowed accreditations, no stock photographs of other people’s work. Anything I cannot verify is left visibly blank until you supply it.

What it costs

Two ways to pay. You own it either way.

Host it with me and pay less upfront. Or pay once, take the files and put them wherever you like. There is no version of this where you rent your own website back from me.

The monthly

What £39 covers.

  • Up to 30 minutes of text changes a month, not carried over
  • Twelve month minimum term, then monthly

Not included

  • Copywriting. You supply the words. I will tell you exactly what is needed and how much of it
  • Photography. The designs are built to work without it
  • Anything past the 30 minutes, charged at £60 an hour
  • New pages or features, quoted separately

Questions

The awkward ones.

Because describing a website is a poor way to sell one, and because I would rather show you than talk at you. It also means the risk sits with me instead of you, which is the right way round when you have not met me before.

Yes, completely, once it is paid for, and that is true whether you host it with me or not. The files are yours, they are plain HTML and CSS, and any competent developer can pick them up. Nothing is locked to me and there is no platform to be trapped on. This is the main difference between this and a pay monthly website: those are usually rented, and stop being yours the month you stop paying.

You do. I am not a copywriter and I will not pretend to be one, because writing about your trade badly is worse than not writing about it at all. What I will do is tell you exactly which pieces of text are needed, roughly how long each should be, and what each one has to achieve. Most people find that far easier than facing a blank page.

Small text edits are straightforward and I will show you how. If you are on the monthly, send them to me instead and they come out of your thirty minutes. For anything structural, send it to me either way.

A first build is usually ready to look at within a week or two. Turning an approved build into a live site is quick, since the work is already done.

The work happens over email and a couple of calls, so it makes very little difference where either of us is. Everything is delivered remotely.

Shall I build yours?

Tell me the business and I will send you a finished website to look at. No cost, and no obligation to take it.
